Calm Blue Ocean

Shawn Ensley is a Whatcom County native, dedicated husband and father, and 21-year Air Force veteran who retired honorably in 2019. With over 19 years at BP Cherry Point and a career built on safety-critical operations, Shawn brings real accountability and working-class values to the Port of Bellingham.

I’m a husband and a father, not a career politician. I understand what it takes to earn a living, support a family, and depend on strong infrastructure and good jobs in this community.

I’m running for Port of Bellingham Commissioner because I believe the Port should responsibly manage public assets to create real public benefit and long‑term private investment, supporting living‑wage jobs, reliable transportation, and a waterfront that works for the whole community.

I bring a working‑class perspective, real operations experience, and a commitment to making sure the Port delivers results that people can see and trust.

My Priorities as Your Port Commissioner

The Port of Bellingham is one of Whatcom County's most important public assets — managing our harbors, airport, industrial properties, and waterfront for the benefit of every resident. As your Commissioner, I will focus on three core priorities:

Optimize Transportation Gateways

The Port of Bellingham sits at a remarkable geographic crossroads — connecting Whatcom County to Pacific trade routes, Canadian markets, and Alaskan communities through our harbors, airport, and ferry terminal. That's an enormous asset, and we should be using it to its full potential.

Promote Sustainable Economic Development

A healthy Port means good jobs and a thriving local economy. I will work to grow trade and commerce, support our maritime and industrial businesses, and attract new employers to Whatcom County — ensuring the Port fulfills its core mission of economic development while keeping opportunity accessible to working families in our community.

Responsible land and Facilities Management

  • Accountable Use of Public Assets

  • Smart, Balanced Development

  • Waterfront Access for Everyone

  • Conservation as Economic Strategy
